How Do You Get NDIS Funding?

To obtain National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding, you need to follow a specific process.

Here are the general steps involved in getting NDIS funding:

Check your eligibility: The first step is to determine if you meet the eligibility criteria for the NDIS. The scheme is available to individuals under the age of 65 who have a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to participate in everyday activities.

Contact the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA): The second step is to get in touch with the NDIA, the organisation responsible for administering the NDIS. You can contact them by phone (1800 800 110), email (https://www.ndis.gov.au/contact/feedback-and-complaints/contact-and-feedback-form), or visit their website to start the process.

Access Request Form: The NDIA will provide you with an Access Request Form, which you need to complete. This form asks for information about your disability, functional impairments, and any supporting documentation you may have.

Supporting documentation: Next, you will need to gather any relevant documentation that supports your eligibility for the NDIS. This may include medical reports, assessments, or statements from healthcare professionals who have knowledge of your disability and its impact on your life.

Submit your application: When you are ready, complete the Access Request Form and provide all the required supporting documentation. Make sure to include detailed information about your disability, functional limitations, and how it affects your daily life and participation in activities.

Assessment process: The NDIA will review your application and may request additional information or assessments to determine your eligibility for the NDIS. This may involve a meeting or phone call with a representative from the NDIA, or they may seek further information from your healthcare providers.

Planning meeting: If your application is approved, you will be invited to attend a planning meeting with a representative from the NDIA. During this meeting, you will discuss your goals, needs, and support requirements. It is essential to be prepared and advocate for the supports and services you require.

NDIS plan development: Based on the information gathered in the planning meeting, the NDIA will develop an individualised NDIS plan for you. This plan outlines the funding you will receive and the specific supports and services you are eligible for.

Plan approval: Once your NDIS plan is developed, you will receive a copy for review. If you are satisfied with the plan, you can sign and return it to the NDIA for approval.

Accessing funding and supports: Once your plan is approved, you can start accessing NDIS funding and utilising the supports and services outlined in your plan. You can choose service providers and manage your funding according to your needs and preferences.

Remember, the NDIS process can be complex. Careseekers has been an NDIS provider for over five years. We have a good understanding of the NDIS and while we may not be able to answer all your questions, our team may be able to answer some of your questions quickly or refer you onto the right support organisation or advocacy group.
