NDIS Worker Orientation Module: Quality, Safety and You

What Every Support Worker Needs To Know

Providing high-quality, safe and person-centred support is at the heart of the NDIS. Whether you’re new to the sector or have been supporting people for years, the NDIS Worker Orientation Module: Quality, Safety and You is an essential foundation for anyone working with NDIS participants.

This free, online training developed by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission helps workers understand their responsibilities, strengthen their professional practice, and deliver support in a way that protects the rights, dignity and wellbeing of every person they work with.

In this blog, we break down what the module covers, why it matters, and how workers on platforms like Careseekers benefit from completing it.

What Is the NDIS Worker Orientation Module?

The module is a nationally recognised training program designed to introduce workers to the NDIS Code of Conduct and the principles that underpin safe and respectful service delivery. It takes around 90 minutes to complete and is free for all workers, including independent support workers, agency staff and volunteers.

Once completed, workers receive a downloadable certificate, which many employers and platforms - like Careseekers - require as part of their onboarding and compliance.

Mandatory for All Careseekers Workers

At Careseekers, safety and quality come first.

To ensure all clients receive respectful, consistent and professional support, the NDIS Worker Orientation Module is a mandatory onboarding requirement for every worker on the Careseekers platform.

Your certificate must be uploaded during onboarding before your profile can be activated.

This helps us maintain high standards of practice and gives clients confidence that their worker understands their rights, safeguards and responsibilities.

Why the Module Matters

1. It strengthens safety and quality in the sector

The training helps workers understand what high-quality support looks like and how to ensure the people they support are safe, respected and empowered. It offers practical examples of real-life scenarios workers may encounter.

2. It reinforces the rights of NDIS participants

The module is grounded in the belief that every person has the right to:

  • be treated with dignity and respect

  • make their own choices

  • feel safe

  • receive support without discrimination

  • have their privacy protected

These principles sit at the heart of person-centred practice.

3. It clarifies your responsibilities as a worker

Workers gain an understanding of:

  • mandatory reporting obligations

  • how to identify and report concerns

  • how to uphold the NDIS Code of Conduct

  • professional boundaries

  • acting with integrity, honesty and transparency

What the Module Covers

The module is structured around four key areas:

1. Human rights and the NDIS Code of Conduct

How to uphold a person’s rights, independence and choices while delivering support safely and ethically.

2. Supporting choice and control

What it means to deliver person-centred support, tailor your approach, and ensure that people are active decision-makers in their own lives.

3. Preventing harm, abuse and neglect

Practical steps for recognising risk, maintaining safety, reporting incidents and protecting vulnerable people.

4. Working safely and appropriately

Self-care, boundaries, communication, consent and maintaining professionalism in homes and community settings.
