Changes Are Coming With Support At Home Here's What You Need To Know

From 1 July 2025, Australia’s aged care system is changing. If you or a loved one currently receive services through a Home Care Package, you’ll be moving to the new Support at Home program.

Here’s what that means for you and what you need to do.

What is Support at Home?
Support at Home is the government’s new program to help older Australians stay independent and live in their own homes for longer. You’ll still get the services you need, such as help with cleaning, meals, transport, and more.

But there are a few key changes to know about:

  • You’ll have more flexibility and choice in how you use your funding
  • New dedicated funding will be available for things like home modifications and equipment
  • Your funds will now be paid in quarterly instalments, not all at once
  • You’ll still be supported by your current provider (as long as they’re transitioning too)

Can I Still Use Careseekers To Find Great Aged Care Workers?

Yes! At Careseekers, we are not a provider but we’re fully prepared for the transition to Support at Home. Our platform is already aligned with the upcoming program and we’ve got everything in place to support you, including:

✔️ We collaborate with many trusted aged care providers
✔️ A diverse community of background-checked, qualified care workers
✔️ Easy-to-use tools for managing your care online
✔️ Full compliance with government requirements for providers
✔️ Ongoing updates and support as the transition rolls out

What’s Staying the Same?

  • You’ll keep the same level of funding you have now
  • Any unspent funds will carry over
  • Your care plan will still be based on your needs and goals
  • You’ll still be able to choose the services that suit you

What Do I Need to Do?

Between now and July, your provider will contact you to:

  • Review your current care plan
  • Discuss new pricing under the Support at Home program
  • Set up a new Service Agreement

This is your chance to talk through what’s working, what you’d like to change, and what supports you might need in the future.

If you currently pay an income-tested fee, Services Australia will also contact you about any changes to your contribution.

What Are Co-Contributions?

Under Support at Home, some aged care services will be fully funded, while others will require a co-contribution based on your income, assets, and the type of service. Clinical care like nursing will be free, personal care will have moderate fees, and everyday services like cleaning or gardening may involve higher contributions. For more information, please reach out to your provider about Co-Contributions.
