How to get the most out of Careseekers: Tips for clients and care workers
If you’re a care-worker who works with us, or a client who sources care from us, you’ve probably already realised the huge benefits of using Careseekers. We want you to get the absolute most out of our service though and with these pointers, you’ll ensure that your experience with us is as beneficial to you as possible.
For Care Workers
- Keep your profile up to date! This includes where you are located, any skills, qualifications or experience with particular conditions, changes in your availability and your rates. It makes it so much easier for us to match you with the right clients.
- Give your profile personality and make it personal. Talk about your background, why you’re doing this work and what your interests are.
- Keep your profile picture professional. We don’t mean wear a suit and tie, but stay away from mirror selfies, showing too much skin etc.
- Really utilise the messaging feature that we have. This tool can keep you top of mind for clients when recommending care workers to others, or if they need help again after using it for sporadic help, or after taking a break.
- Be proactive about looking at the site and job ads every day. We have as many private as corporate clients searching for care workers daily on Careseekers, so keep logging on and checking in.
- Pay attention to the job emails we send you with latest job ads and priority positions to fill.
- Keep an eye on our Careseeker information emails because they include lots of news and advice that will really enhance your knowledge, capabilities and career as a care worker.
- Take small shifts to get started, when you’re just beginning. This is a great way to build your profile and reputation.
- Look for opportunities to grow. Many of the jobs advertised on Careseekers provide some sort of on the job training, so you can use your work with us as a chance to really enhance your skill set and advance your career.
For Clients:
- Be very detailed in your job ad and give as much relevant information as possible. Including all information initially saves time-wasting with applicants who don’t meet all your needs. Make sure you are very specific about:
- The number of hours you need, as well as the days of the week and times you need.
- If you require someone who can speak a particular language.
- If the person needing care has any conditions that require particular qualifications or experience (eg Dementia).
- What support you want – eg showering, dressing, toileting, food prep, companionship etc
- Where you are located
- Write an ad that has some personality or gives an insight into the personality of the person needing care. You could try writing it from the perspective of the care recipient (‘I am 10 years old and I like lots of laughs and being read to’). Or you could mention things like ‘he is an ex professional tennis player and avid spy novel reader, big sport fan’ etc. Including details like this increases your chance of finding a support worker who resonates with the care recipient and that is often the key to a successful care worker/client relationship.
