Achieve your NDIS goals with a support worker from Careseekers.
Find out what other participants have achieved with their support team.
If you are immersed in the world of NDIS funding you will know that at the heart of an NDIS plan is the participants goals, and supports will only be funded if they help the participant meet these goals.
Goals are what the participant wants to achieve, learn or develop.
An NDIS support worker can play an integral part in helping you, or the participant you are supporting, to achieve their goals, Funding can be used to engage a worker for these purposes. In fact, support workers from Careseekers have supported participants all over Australia to achieve their NDIS goals.
Read the stories below for some inspiration! (Please note names have been changed to protect the privacy of clients and care workers).
“Flexibility was critical for me to achieve my goals”
Joanne is a young woman with a chronic illness which means she cannot drive and needs a care worker to help her achieve her goals of an independent life. For Joanne this means someone who can take her to uni, doctors appointments and run her up to the shops.
Joanne was getting frustrated using service providers who required that she specify the times and dates she needed help with every week. She has now connected to Andy, a support worker on Careseekers who likes a flexible working schedule. Joanne simply texts Andy when she needs some help and Andy then submits her invoices on the Careseekers platform, to be paid for by Joanne’s service provider.
“I wanted to learn the skills to be independent”
Jeff was needing help with personal care morning and evening. Through Careseekers he connected with two support workers who were able to provide consistent, reliable care. Using support workers instead of family members for these daily tasks made him feel much more independent. While getting to know the support workers he found out that one of them was a whizz in the kitchen. He started teaching Jeff some skills for preparing meals. Jeff’s independence has increased considerably and he feels in control of the support he receives.
Independence means different things to different participants. Examples include help with personal care needs each morning/evening, help with learning how to budget and/or organise one's day or learn how to cook healthy meals and take travel on public transport independently.
A support worker who is committed to help a participant gain these essential skills will support a participant to thrive. Support workers on Careseekers have a variety of skills they can bring to a role, some of these may be learned from formal education such as social work degrees, certificates in Disability Support but other skills come from life experience and other work experience. By choosing your own support worker with the right set of skills the goal of independence can be achieved on a daily basis.
“I want to be involved in the activities in my community”
Philippa and her support worker Lisi meet every Monday and Wednesday. Lisi helps Philippa do a number of activities in her community. Mondays is swimming day and Wednesdays they go for lunch.
Lisi comments “ I love driving up to Philippa’s house every Monday where she is waiting with her swimming bag on her back and a big smile. We have developed a great routine and even better, a lovely friendship.”
There is no limit to the types of request support workers have helped participants with including, attending the local swimming pool, art classes, dance classes, trips to the movies on a Saturday night, lunches, picnics.
To make things easier, support workers on Careseekers clearly state on their profiles if they can drive.
